The overall roadmap

Five stages from Class 10 to a career.

  1. 1

    Class 10

Identify interests, strengths and preferred careers. Discuss choices with parents, teachers and a qualified career counsellor.

  2. 2

    Class 11

Study the chosen subjects consistently. If preparing for an entrance exam, align preparation with the school syllabus.

  3. 3

    Class 12

Complete board requirements, take relevant entrance exams, shortlist courses and colleges, and track application and counselling dates.

  4. 4

    College or training

Build subject knowledge, practical skills, projects, internships and communication skills.

  5. 5

    After qualification

Apply for jobs, apprenticeships or professional registration where relevant; consider postgraduate study or entrepreneurship.

MPC and the IIT-JEE roadmap

MPC: the route to engineering and the sciences.

Who may consider it? Students who enjoy mathematics, physics, problem-solving, technology, engineering or scientific subjects. For engineering admission, check the prescribed Physics, Mathematics and other subject requirements for the institution and exam.

Step-by-step JEE pathway

  1. 01
    After Class 10

Choose an eligible 10+2 combination that includes the subjects required for your target engineering courses. MPC is the common route.

  2. 02
    Class 11

Build strong fundamentals in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Follow a realistic study plan and practise problems regularly.

  3. 03
    Class 12

Balance board preparation with JEE preparation. Revise concepts, solve timed questions and take mock tests.

  4. 04
    JEE Main

Take the exam if eligible. It is used for admission to many engineering institutions and is the qualifying route for JEE Advanced, subject to current rules.

  5. 05
    JEE Advanced

Candidates meeting the current eligibility criteria can attempt it for IIT admission. Qualifying does not guarantee a seat.

  6. 06
    Counselling

Compare rank, course, fees, location, accreditation, curriculum and placement outcomes. Follow the relevant counselling process, including JoSAA where applicable.

  7. 07
    During the degree

Build projects, technical skills, internships and communication skills; explore core engineering, technology, research, business or higher study.

  • Entrepreneurship. Technology products, engineering services, software businesses and startups.

College options: IITs for eligible JEE Advanced candidates; NITs, IIITs and other participating institutions through their own routes; state engineering colleges; and private universities. Admission methods differ, and no degree guarantees a specific salary or job.

BiPC and the NEET roadmap

BiPC: the route to medicine and life sciences.

Who may consider it? Students interested in biology, healthcare, medicine, patient care, animals, agriculture or life sciences. Verify qualifying subjects and course-specific requirements before selecting subjects.

Step-by-step NEET pathway

  1. 01
    After Class 10

Choose an eligible combination meeting the requirements for your intended course. BiPC is the common route for medical education.

  2. 02
    Class 11

Study Biology, Physics and Chemistry consistently. Build understanding rather than relying only on memorisation.

  3. 03
    Class 12

Prepare for board exams and NEET-UG. Practise the prescribed syllabus and take timed mock tests.

  4. 04
    NEET-UG

Apply and appear if eligible. NEET is the entrance route for MBBS and is used for certain other undergraduate medical programmes.

  5. 05
    Counselling

Apply through the appropriate central, state or institutional counselling process for your course and seat category.

  6. 06
    College and training

Check recognition, clinical or practical facilities, total fees, internship requirements and registration rules.

  7. 07
    After qualification

Complete the required internship, registration or licensing before practising in a regulated profession.
